What is a backyard ultra?

One loop. Every hour. No finish line.

The format is brutally simple: a 6.7 km loop you must finish before the next full hour strikes. Then the next lap starts — again and again. There is no set distance and no finish time. The race is over once the second-to-last runner has dropped and the last runner has completed one full loop alone.

Whoever can start — and finish — one more lap when everyone else has given up is the last runner standing. Everyone else is recorded as DNF.

  1. Every full hour

A gun goes off every full hour — a "yard". Everyone starts together.

  2. Finish the loop in time

6.7 km must be done before the hour is up. The time left is your rest.

  3. One more lap

Whoever starts and finishes one final lap alone wins. The rest are recorded DNF.
